Job description

The Senior Software Engineer will work on the USAID Analytics, Data, Visualization, and Information Services (ADVISE) award in support of the USAID Data Services team. There are currently 3 Senior Software Engineer positions available.

USAID Data Services is a team within USAID’s Office of the Chief Information Officer, in USAID’s Management Bureau (M/CIO) and includes engineers, software developers, IT specialists, AI specialists, data scientists and analysts, economists, all of whom collaborate to transform the way USAID collects, analyzes and uses data to ensure its development outcomes are supported by evidence.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and architect a public platform to search through large volumes of data from various sources
  • Collaborate with USAID Data Services' Data Architect and software engineers to create plans to complete tasks in achievable milestones
  • Create migration plans to move existing data to a highly efficient data architecture
  • Advise on technical approaches to challenging problems
  • Provide mentor-ship and technical leadership to engineers and stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred in Computer or Information Science or related discipline)
  • Communicate well with stakeholders and non-technical collaborators on future goals and tasks
  • Proven experience building highly scalable web applications in all aspects
  • Demonstrated experience with Javascript (ReactJS), Ruby on Rails, and Node
  • Experience building scalable APIs that is robust, reusable, and well tested
  • Familiarity with relational databases such as Oracle and MySQL
  • Familiarity with setting up search engine applications such as ElasticSearch
  • Familiarity with content management systems
  • Familiarity with implementing single sign on

The candidate must have solid teamwork capabilities, capacity to inspire and motivate junior staff, excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills, including with technical audiences and be highly motivated and responsible self-starter.

It’s all the better if you share an interest in supporting some of USAID’s development goals through making collecting, analyzing and using development data more efficiently and effectively!

The candidate must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for the required U.S. government security clearance for this project.
