About the role

You will join our SRE team in scaling the performance and usability of the solutions, features and services Syapse delivers to customers.

Syapse’s precision medicine platform depends on a rock-solid cloud automation and deployment framework.  Our cloud platform is hosted at AWS and represents the state of the art features and solutions leveraged by Syapse customers and hosts our customers Clinical and molecular data in the cloud.  We are looking for a brilliant experienced hands-on manager to lead and grow our SRE team.

There are 7 team members in the SRE team, so you will be working with the SRE lead, SRE Engineers, Database administrators and Information Security Architect to engineer reliability solutions and deliver awesome experience to our customers and maintain the reliability of our cloud platform.

We primarily leverage AWS cloud, RDS, Aurora, AWS Athena, Redshift, Terraform, Kubernetes, Jenkins (Continuous integration), CircleCI (Continuous integration), home grown continuous deployment (CD), Monitoring tool - NewRelic, Event correlation/log aggregation - Sumologic

A breakdown of the average day for this role:

  • 25% focused on feature, solutions, and service delivery to customers
  • 25% focused on service reliability and proactive performance enhancements to Syapse services. Partner with the Information security officer to plan vulnerability assessment, mitigation and data security.
  • 25% focused on customer data processing management and planning
  • 10% coaching and mentoring team members
  • 5% building relationships with peers in the organization and getting involved in strategic planning
  • 5% AWS expense management and vendor management

Our team prides itself on delivering high performance and high availability. We have not missed a customer SLA on uptime or usability in the past 12 months. The team works well under constraints anc collaborates with other organizations to deliver customer outcomes. The Manager of this team is expected to be a champion for this team, raise awareness on the SRE initiatives, seek feedback and communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.

What you bring to the table

  • Passionate about innovating service reliability by leveraging engineering principles and cloud automation
  • Tenacity, willingness to be strategic and bring discipline to the SRE activities to be consistent and predictable
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to leverage communication as a tool to drive organization alignment
  • 5 years of experience managing SRE or DEVOPS teams
  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience in the field of SRE or DEVOPS
  • Individual who looks at challenges as opportunities to innovate and willingness to scale services irrespective of the constraints
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and Kubernetes
  • Strong scripting skills in Python (preferred), or other scripting languages (Bash, Perl, etc.) are a must
  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible or Salt
