Job Summary

The Data Architect is responsible for partnering closely with business and technical teams to develop an understanding of current and future state data needs – including product development, consumer engagement, operational management, and client/stakeholder engagement within a cloud-first technical environment. This role will leverage these partnership and business demands to drive the creation of an enterprise data strategy, necessary data architectures, and data technology road map. This team member will also document multiple architectural models or views that show how the current and future needs of the organization will be met in an efficient, sustainable, agile and adaptable manner. Furthermore this candidate is also expected to be able to demonstrate the practical experience needed in order to develop, implement, and maintain the data management services and tools that are central to the overall corporate strategy.  

 Essential Roles and Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with the business, IT, and engineering organizations to plan and execute against a data strategy.
      • Build a holistic view of the organization's current and future data strategy, processes, information technology assets.
    • Architect data solutions
      • Create data architecture strategies for each subject area of the enterprise data model.
      • Ensure data solutions are built for performance, fault tolerance and security with reusable patterns.
      • Create and maintain a corporate repository of all data architecture artifacts.
      • Identify and implement build versus buy strategies regarding technology.
      • Produce all project data architecture deliverables.
    • Evangelize and create a ‘data as a key corporate asset’ culture – in addition to ‘soft skills’ this includes applying hands-on support in driving the charge around master data management, enterprise domain modeling, and data quality/governance models.
    • Communicate plans, status and issues to higher management levels.
    • Identify and enable data capabilities across the enterprise - Research, analyze and promote data standards to be used across the enterprise.
    • Monitor and identify performance trends and work with teams to improve processes and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

    • There is no supervisory responsibility with this position.

Expected Skills and Competencies

    • Extensive knowledge of data governance, data lineage solutions and data management processes.
    • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques.
    • Familiar with data validation, mining and cleansing.
    • Ability to understand and document how data sources map to various processes.
    • Expertise in business data definition, business glossary development and establishing data lineage to ensure compliance with healthcare industry and regulatory standards and principles related to data aggregation and reporting.
    • Experience in writing clear Business Requirements Documentation to provide the appropriate direction to satisfy project objectives.
    • Hands on proficiency in SQL (certification preferred) and data analysis.
    • Ability to trace data from source to target by interpreting code written in a variety of languages.
    • Proficiency in Azure SQL Service, Power BI, Stored Procedures, C#, and SQL Server environments a plus.
    • Experience with NoSQL technologies and database solutions (ie. Big Data, Document, Graph), including the ability to identify where the application of these platforms are preferred amongst each other and over more traditional relational database designs.
    • Expertise in working within cloud computing infrastructure and services, with an expectation that data designs and solutions align with cloud best practices in integration, security, scalability, backup and recovery, and CI/CD.
    • Advanced experience with business intelligence tools
    • ience with designing, developing, and managing production data systems across the value stream of data – acquisition, integration, management, and customer/product utilization. Expe
      • ience within healthcare regulatory environments a strong plus.
      • Experience with health plan systems, benefits, and eligibility a strong plus.
    • Strong analytical skill-set with attention to detail.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication (written/verbal), teamwork and consensus building skills – with experience leveraging these from line staff to senior leadership.

Education and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, information systems or related field required.
    • 7+ years’ experience in data management, analysis, modeling, and/or architecture required.
